In 2021, 400 Blanche du Massif Central sheep were imported to Armenia through the UNDP component of the EU "Green Agriculture Initiative in Armenia" program. Witnessing the economic effectiveness of breeding this breed, private businessmen also participated in establishing pedigree farms, resulting in an increase in the number of imported Blanch heads in our country to over 900.
The program invited experts from France to train farmers on properly adapting pedigree sheep to the climatic conditions of Armenia.
For the study of the Blanche breed and its crossbreeding with local breeds, 24 sheep were provided to the "Balahovit Experimental Farm" of the ANAU.
To facilitate thoroughbred sheep breeding, insemination, diagnostic, and veterinary services, the "MAQI" pedigree sheep breeding center was inaugurated in the Azatan community of Shirak marz. It was equipped with the necessary equipment and thoroughbred animals as part of the project.
Coordinated by the ICARE Foundation, the program has developed the corresponding 2023-2028 strategy and on May 24, 2023, established the Association of Pedigree Sheep Breeders of Armenia.
